Fox News Makes Me Laugh!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Oh how stupid those Fox people are! They are pushing such a blind stupid agenda, they need to wake up and get their heads out of the hole and stop preaching this shit! At least they gave Geoff Keighley some time to speak, even if it was stupidly limited!

Assassinating PC Specs

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Early specs for Assassin’s Creed for the PC have been revealed on the Ubisoft Solution Center.

Question
What are the minimum system requirements for Assassin’s Creed?

Answer

In order to play this game properly, your PC MUST meet or exceed these minimum requirements:

Supported OS: Windows XP / Vista (only)
Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
RAM: 2 GB (3 GB recommended)
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (512 MB video card recommended) (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries (included on disc)
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
Hard Drive Space: 12 GB
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)

*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
ATI RADEON X1300-1950 / HD 2000 / 3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6600-6800 / 7 / 8 / 9 series

Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.

NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives.

If this is the final spec of the PC version then…well wow. These spec levels are beefier than those for Crysis, I am not looking forward to trying to play this…well I won’t be able to what with only having a lowly P4!

I am also wary of the last part concerning preventing copying, I just hope they don’t put in some software that kills disc drives!

Tiberium Trailer

Friday, January 18th, 2008

The debut trailer for the upcoming Command and Conquer squad based FPS ‘Tiberium’ has been released and can be seen below.

Thanks GameTrailers!

Now while I shouldn’t really be too critical what with owning cncnation.net and all, but this doesn’t do anything for me. While it may end up being a very solid FPS, since C&C3 was released I have lost my need and desire for C&C games, and to take the franchise to the FPS arena is just a bad move. We shall wait and see, but I am most definately holding back my ‘hype-o-meter’ for this.

Shocking Award Nominations

Friday, January 18th, 2008

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has nominated the excellant Bioshock for a massive 12 awards in its 11th Interactive Achievement Awards. The awards it has been nominated for are:

Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Character Performance, Story Development, Original Music Composition, Soundtrack, Sound Design, Game Design, Innovation, Action Game of the Year, Computer Game of the Year, Console game of the year and Overall Game of the Year.

The awards will be made at the D.I.C.E summit in Las Vega on February 7th.

I’ll be honest…Bioshock is well worthy of being nominated in those categories, whether it wins any of them is another story, but I see no problems with it being nominated for them.

While Bioshock may have fallen apart after the big reveal in my mind, it was still an amazing game so 2K Games get my hearty congratulations for these nominations.

That is all from your intrepid reporter.

WGA and Game Writers = New Award

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

While the Writers Strike may be continuing over in America (god knows when it will end!) the Writers Guild of America has turned to support video game writers with a new category in the WGA Awards.

Titled the Videogame Writing award there is a nice selection of nominees.

VIDEOGAME WRITING NOMINEES

CRASH OF THE TITANS, Written by Christopher Mitchell, Sierra Entertainment

DEAD HEAD FRED, Written by Dave Ellis and Adam Cogan, D3 Publisher

THE SIMPSONS GAME, Lead Writer Matt Selman, Written by Tim Long and Matt Warburton, Dialogue by Jeff Poliquin, Electronic Arts

THE WITCHER, Lead Story Designer Artur Ganszyniec, Dialogue Sebastian Stepien, Additional Dialogue Marcin Blacha, Writers Sande Chen and Anne Toole, Atari

WORLD IN CONFLICT, Story Design Christofer Emgard, Story Consultant Larry Bond, Script Consultant Ed Zuckerman, Sierra Entertainment

Great to see video game writers getting further and greater exposure. While I have not played any of these games (and I wonder where Portal is!) I think there have been some good nominations especially with World in Conflict and The Simpsons Game.

Games Industry Targets Politicians

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Michael Gallagher, the Chief Executive of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is determined to gain the support of US politicians in an attempt to gain support for the games industry.

The ESA, the association represents the big movers in the games industry; Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA and the new kids on the block Disney. Last year it set up a political action committee (PAC) which Gallagher says in the New York Times will donate between $50,000 to $100,000 this year to national candidates in a move similar to actions already carried out by the film and music industries.
