OMGWTFBBQ - Achieved!

OMGWTFBBQ Unlocked

Upon witnessing that appear in the bottom right of my screen in Team Fortress 2 I was a happy man, but hunt for the achievement which had lasted all of five minutes was finally at an end. I had become a holder of the OMGWTFBBQ achievement, and I am proud to say that I did it legitimately.

TF2 Logo

After reading Tom Francis’ bloggings on his quest to earn the OMGWTFBBQ achievement and Chris Livingston’s take on it I decided to go out and focus on getting it myself.

I informed my comrades on the Rock, Paper, Shotgun Steam Group chat of my goal and recieved numerous ‘good luck’ messages. Well maybe not quite, but I was given various hints about strategy and whatnot.

I jumped onto the PC Gamer Team Fortress 2 server, went through two rounds on some map that I have already forgotten the name of, then we got onto cp_Well and map which I have enjoyed immensely in the past few weeks. I went to the other side of the tracks and saw two possible victims, a Heavy who was my initial target and a Soldier who was running in my direction. I whipped out my Shotgun, hit G and hoped for the best.

BBQ Kill

I held my breath as my Pyro went through the motions of the Haduoken and suddenly there it was my achievement, I had done it. OMGWTFBBQ, perhaps one of the most ingenious acheivements Valve have put in their games, just behind the Gnome in Episode 2 was mine. A great day in the land of Team Fortress 2.

Cosmic Sunder Elements

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Some of you may remember me talking about Welsh developers Dark Rock Games a few months ago and talking a bit about some projects they had in the works.

Well today I can finally unveil Cosmic Sunder Elements to the public. Cosmic Sunder is a 2D Space Invaders/Peggle mash-up with a whole bunch of personality thrown in to boot. I have been playing the demo for the past few days and have had a great time with it.

Cosmic Sunder

Simple straight to the point games are a rareity these days, but Cosmic Sunder seems to be one of those rare games. It provides good clean fun and is well worth checking out.

Cosmic Sunder Again

Take your spaceship, fire some spaceballs into space and score some points while earning power ups and more. Great fun.

Ahh Diablo…

Friday, June 27th, 2008

It seems I was a bit hasty earlier with my Diablo III post. Well can you blame me? I was heading off to work and didn’t get the time to check if everything was kosher!

So thanks to some commenters and other kindly internet people I have found out that Diablo IV V and VI have also had forums created for them.

I will gladly hold my hands up and admit I was wrong. Life still goes on eh!

Diablo III Eh?

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Thanks to CptStern over on the halflife2.net forums for this link which shows the option to search a Diablo III section on the Blizzard forums. Click on the image below for visual proof. I think it is getting ever safer to say that Blizzard will be announcing Diablo III at the Paris Convention this weekend!

Blood Bowl - First Trailer

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Blood Bowl

Blood Bowl will be the latest game based on a Games Workshop entity, of which there have been loads! So moving on, Blood Bowl is being touted as a mix between American Football and Warhammer, and I guess with a whole heap of blood and violence thrown in for good measure. Blood Bowl is being developed by Cyanide, the team behind Pro Cycling Manager 2008 so it is interesting to see how a sedate cycling game developer can transition into making Blood Bowl. Hit the jump for a trailer.

Battlefield 2 Patch and Maps Coming?

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

The Australian/New Zealand based netGameRadio has recently scored an exclusive interview with DICE honcho John Hargelid. While they start talking at the 37 minute mark of the massive podcast some interesting information is revealed five minutes into the interview itself.

When posed with a question about whether we can expect to see any new Battlefield 2 maps/patches in the near future, John initially evaded the question, but he did reveal that on Monday we can expect to see an official announcement on this. In another interesting bit of new John confirmed that DICE have control over when the BF2 master servers will be turned off, and they have no plans to do that any time soon.

You can get the podcast from netGameRadio or from the Total Gaming Network. ( via Kotaku.)

If this is true this is a great surprise, it is the third anniversary of the launch of BF2 on Monday and it is great to see and hear that DICE are still interested in keeping up support for the game. I have recently started playing BF2 again on-and-off and have been wondering if we would see any more support for the game arrive.

It seems that Monday we will see an announcement, fingers crossed it will be very good news and that there will be something to breathe new life back into the game. I can’t wait to hear this!

This Gaming Life Arrives

This Gaming Life

I will be honest, that picture does no justice whatsoever to having the proper hardback copy of Jim Rossignol’s book, This Gaming Life: Travels in Three Cities, on your desk.

My first impressions are that Jim has written a very good book and has taken to the task of writing on a much larger scale to heart and has produced a fine piece of literature. Good on him.
