Cosmic Sunder Elements Review
Cosmic Sunder Elements takes you back in time to an age when games like Space Invaders ruled the world, yet it combines this with a twist of modern Peggle styled delights. Cosmic Sunder takes you on a journey around a host of different worlds and areas and poses you a challenge on each level. The challenge may follow the same basic principle, which is to clear the screen of the various blocks and elements while making use of the plentiful array of power-ups.
With power-ups that include the ever faithful “reverse all the directions so you are totally screwed for the next five seconds” to the “lets make everything a chicken!” there are plenty to get your teeth into. Make the split second decisions on which power-ups to grab when can turn a game on its head and give you the chance to finish off a level with one life remaining. In this way a level of strategy is incorporated into Cosmic Sunder.

Progressing through levels is easy enough, once you have cleared all the elements and blocks you are ready to move on. Once all the elements are cleared a super power-up is dropped which will do something, would you believe it, special. Something that I am greatly appreciative of is that even once you lose all your lives you can go back and start again from where you are, though with no score. However a slight gripe I have is that you can’t progress from a level once all the elements are cleared, you have to go and clear every last block. While the super power-up does help with this, it is annoying to fail on a level when you lose last life just when you are trying to get one last block to move on in the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog style bonus levels where you can rack up with points in a special level full of stars provide a fun alternative to the usual levels. That is not to say that the normal levels will get boring, there is a massive variety to what you will experience while you play. There are over 80 standard levels based around gluttony of different themes. Throw in the boss battles and bonus levels and you have a pretty meaty game which for a tenner is well worth it.

If you are in any way a fan of fun indie games, retro games, or really any kind of game that provides you with some great moments then this is for you. I myself am disappointed that there hasn’t been much coverage of this game amongst the bigger gaming sites or magazines and I really think it is as good as Peggle.
