Wrestler on Gaming Violence

I am shocked and, well shocked. Someone has actually come out and proclaimed their support for violence in videogames. The person is one Randy Orton, a WWE performer. In this Eurogamer piece Orton reveals his thoughts regarding violence in videogames versus violence in films.

“Violence sells. I want to see more violence in games – the more blood the better,”

“The violence [in Goodfellas] is against human beings. There’s rape in movies – you see all kinds of f***ed up s*** on film,”

The question is then, do we need games to be more violent? I am unsure, in some instances there is definitely room for more violent content in games. Take a wrestling game for example, that is a game where you would expect to see blood and more violent moves taking place. Games like Team Fortress 2 do the violence well, it isn’t excessive and works well within the game.

It is when games start to use excessive violence that we need to stop and think whether it is really useful. Like with violent films the excessive violence can sometimes be good, but often it can be over done and just lowers the quality of the final product.
