European Goo Delayed on Steam
A worrying message has appeared on the Steam news feed regarding World of Goo’s availability for European customers.
Pretty much if you are a European Steam user then you won’t be able to purchase World of Goo until February/March next year, this is the same time as the planned European retail release. If you have already bought your copy of the game then you are not affected by this.
I have gotten in touch with Kyle from 2D Boy (buy it there European readers!) for more details. This is what he had to say:
As part of our European agreement, we are restricted from selling the game on Steam in Europe. I’m thinking this was a clause that was accidentally left in, since I can’t imagine this kind of restriction is good for anyone. We’re going to try to reverse it. We live in the future. We shouldn’t even have countries and regions. Just one big Internet where everyone is equal.

They’re not going to get it reversed. The European distributor makes more money by restricting the game’s availability until launch, why the fuck would they reverse it?
If it was an accident, and it’s in a contract, it’s not getting aborted. It’s not like it’s a foetus.

I say, that’s jolly foolish.
Those silly Valve chaps really need to pull their fingers out of their bottoms, global economy whatnot.
I’ll go back to my ladymags too.

[...] Intrepid investigator Chris “Evo” Evans got hold of 2D’s Kyle Gabler, who told him the following: “As part of our European agreement, we are restricted from selling the game on Steam in Europe. I’m thinking this was a clause that was accidentally left in, since I can’t imagine this kind of restriction is good for anyone. We’re going to try to reverse it. We live in the future. Yes it’s pathetic that there are regional delayed releases, but look on the bright side if you’re European, this should give them time to fix the 800×600 resolution only annoyance and hopefully introduce the widescreen 1680×1050 option without any screen glitches.

Well then I might just get the retail version. Shame this means less money for 2D Boy then – their loss…
