I just popped over to see the top PC games on Metacritic and I noticed that Out of the Park Baseball 2007 is sitting in the number two spot after five reviews. Yes, there is a chance that OOTPB is a great game, but I seriously doubt it is that good to be placed higher on a list that The Orange Box and Bioshock. If we take a look over at Test Freaks we see a much more balanced list with some big games in the top ten.
A bit of searching on Test Freaks though reveals that Half-Life 2 only gets a ‘Freak Score’ of 5.2, comparatively the same game is the top PC game on Metacritic, doesn’t this strike you as a bit odd?
These anomalies show that review aggregate sites are not the perfect way of seeing a break down of top scoring games. The same applies for other forms of entertainment, take Rotten Tomatos for example. Of course different sites have different ways of balancing out the review scores they take into account, as such what we see on these sites should be taken with an understanding of how they work.
Browsing around some old folders on my laptop today I came across something from a few years back, this was known as ‘The PC Gamer Forum Project.’ Basically a group of people from the PC Gamer Forums and myself got together to try and start making a mod. We didn’t really do much, but I still have the introduction to the story. Well it was a cross between a story and something else. Read on to see it in all its’ glory.
