About me.
Well this is my first real blog, i.e. not a crappy nice lil Blogspot account. My name is Chris Evans, I live in Cardiff, South Wales in the UK. I am currently studying Modern History and Politics at University. I am a keen gamer, and I enjoy writing about games and gaming news, thus this blog!
I have been a keen gamer since I can remember first playing on a PC. I have early memories of playing a strange little game hidden in the depths of a Microsoft Encyclopedia…I think. Moving onto real games, Screamer and Network Q RAC Rally were two big ones I loved to play, games like Asteroids, Battlezone (2D) Chips Challenge and Pipe Dream also were involved in my early gaming days, of course Lemmings was there too!
Moving onto the next stage of PC games was the 3D Battlezone based in outer space taking the roles of a US or USSR space person, I really loved that game and miss it at times. After that I moved onto the PSX, games such a FFVIII, FFIX, Gran Turismo, Colin McRae Rally were my staple diet. All the time I was still playing my football management games on the PC.
The PS2 was a big step forward for me game wise, while I had earlier dabbled with Half-Life on the PC via the ‘Uplink’ demo, it was on the PS2 where I first properly played it, Timesplitters 2 and further Gran Turismo’s and Grand Theft Auto were what I loved.
Then I came back to the PC fold. I think this was influenced by reading an issue of PC Gamer one year when I was going on holiday, I had previously been subscribed to some PC mags, but they all died and I moved to PlayStation mags. However PC Gamer showed me the light and I returned to the PC fold getting a PC rig that was decent enough to play some good games.
Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield 2, Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, Half-Life (again) were and still are games that I fondly remember. Half-Life 2 was a giant game for me and I loved it, I also played a fair bit of CSS as one of my first tastes of online gaming along with Call of Duty. However Battlefield 2 grabbed me by the balls so to speak and I played the hell out of that.
Battlefield 2 saw my first (and to date only) gaming clan, to date I have clocked in 482 ranked hours with my clan account…and it is fair to say that BF2 played a large part in my PC gaming life for a long time. Since then I have had a more on/off relationship with games, mainly due to a lack of time available to play. However Half-Life 2 and the Episodes and Portal certainly got my attention. STALKER and Call of Duty 4 are two other standout ‘big’ games that I have really enjoyed.
Now my time is mainly spent playing smaller more casual games, Peggle Deluxe, Puzzle Quest, Masq to name a few.
The announcement that C&C3 was in the works in April of 2006 led me to get into the massive conundrum that is being involved in a gaming site with (soon to be gone) cncnation.net. While I was no stranger to forums, running my own place was a big step. This was followed by taking on a position at halflife2.net and from there we have me now.
