Call of Multiplayer?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Have you ever wondered what a Massively Multiplayer version of Call of Duty would be like? Well it is possible that you should all start pondering. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has talked about the possibility.

“When you think about other properties that we own and control like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment…how do you monetize that?”

I wonder what this means, does it mean that Activision are making realistic plans for a MOG (Multiplayer Online Game) Call of Duty or is he just pondering the future?

I don’t think he would have mentioned it if there weren’t any plans for a MOG CoD, so one has to wonder what kind of approach they would take? My early thinking points towards either a WoW or a Battlefield Heroes esque type. My money would be on the latter, just without the cartoon graphics and what-not. CoD4 introduced perks and lots of customization so I expect that would be a probable area to pick up the money while offering free or very cheap regular required payments.

Then again I am probably putting my thinking cap on for no reason!

Duke Nukem Forvever: This Year?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

It seems that there is an ever so slight possibility that Duke Nuke will be coming out this year according to the Dallas Business Journal.

While they claim that it is a certainty to drop this year this quote is less than confirming.

“We haven’t formally announced any platforms for DNF,” wrote 3D Realms President Scott Miller in an e-mail exchange. “But, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360).” Miller added a note of caution on the 12-years-coming sequel and its release window, claiming, “we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time.”

Time will tell I guess, and I most certainly aren’t going to put down any pre-orders just yet!

Big C&C News Coming?

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

In the latest ‘BattleCast PrimeTime’ from EA (linky) the host alludes to something quite dramatic coming this month for C&C fans.

If you buy Kane’s Wrath on the PC, or the Command and Conquer 3 Limited Collection (C&C3 and Kane’s Wrath) you “will have one more reason to cheer.” In two weeks time we will hear more this big announcement from EALA.

What is it gonna be? ‘Tiberium’ has already been revealed, and we have one C&C3 expansion nearly released.

As such, my bet is that we will have an announcement of a new C&C3 expansion pack….or Red Alert 3!

I guess those who get Kane’s Wrath or the Limited Collection will receive some art work from the game that is due to be announced. I assume it is a game as it is something that EALA have been keeping secret for months already…time will tell, but my money is on Red Alert 3.
