SI Games Interview

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I am a big fan of the Football Manager games and it was a pleasure to recently do a little Q&A with two of the biggest figures in the series, Marc Duffy (MD) and Miles Jacobson (MJ). With chatter about topics as varied as Football Manager Live, E3 and piracy this is a must read for anyone interested in the Football Manager series and in the anti-piracy debate. Check it all out after the jump!

Earlier this month I wrote a brief piece discussing fanboys, I decided to include that piece in the latest edition of The PC Centric Extravaganza over on 411. The responses that is has generated have been very interesting to read.

Far Cry 2 - Good Night!

Friday, July 11th, 2008

This latest video/interview for Far Cry 2 is one of the best I have seen for the game recently. While I have been keeping my eyes on Far Cry 2 for a while now, this video shows off some great new gameplay footage and the Creative Director, Clint Hocking talks us through the day/night cycle of the game.

Having watched this I now know how I will play Far Cry 2. I will wait til it is night, sneak into enemy camps, do the necessary deeds then sneak out. Of course that probably won’t happen and I will spectacularly fail whenever I do try and do that. Ah well!

Political Machine

I think it is time I got round to talking about The Political Machine 2008, the latest in Bobble-Head Political Games from Stardock Interactive. I recently defeated Ulysses S. Grant in the US Presidential Election with Barack Obama as my Vice President.

Pyro-maniac

Word reaches me from Rock, Paper, Shotgun regarding the release dates for the Pyro Upgrade and the latest ‘Meet The’ with Meet The Sniper.

Tuesday at 11am PDT/7pm GMT Meet The Sniper will be released to the waiting public. Rock, Paper, Shotgun informs us that this is one of the best ‘Meet The’ to date with some great laughs and back story development.

Thursday will see the mega-Pyro changes occur whereby players will be able to procure 35 new Pyro-specific achievements and earn three new unlockables. We can also expect to see two new user-created TF2 maps appear in this update.

All this leads up to Friday which will see the launch of a new Free Team Fortress 2 Weekend. From 11am PDT/7pm GMT on Friday anyone and everyone will be able to play Team Fortress 2.

Spore (Trial) Creature Creator Leaked

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Evo-Saur

That little dude is called Evo-Saur and he is my first creation in the recently leaked Spore Creature Creator. The Creature Creator reportedly was made available by EA but was quickly taken down. The files are currently floating about many torrent sites such as this one.

Note that currently it is only the free trial version of the Creature Creator that is out there. The trial version and the full version should be released on Wednesday (a delay of one day) according to this EA page.

Crocasaur

I am currently having great fun tweaking around with my creatures such as my Crocasaur which is above. Even with the limited number of options available with this leaked trial version it is clear that people will have a great time playing about with it.

I think EA are making the right choice with releasing the Creature Creator early, it is going to allow people to explore and make crazy creatures before the full game comes out so that when people can get down to playing they know what to do and make creatures to actually play with, rather than jokes.

Flying Crab Dude Mixamathon

Into EVE

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I write this as my new Frigate know as the Navitas circles an asteroid in the Bourynes Solar System. My ship is currently mining some Condensed Scordite while my character is learning a Learning Skill. You see, I have been playing EVE Online for only a matter of days and already I am getting into it. This is a game where you can sit back and relax while you let things happen. Of course I am not relaxed, I am still nervous and fearing that something is going to go drastically wrong.

Spore News Feast

Spore

I’ll be honest, I have been a bit lazy with my Spore news recently, I think that I have to make amends for that and I will start to do so now.

The first piece of news comes way of Shacknews which has revealed the minimum and recommended specs for Spore on the PC. They are really quite reasonable.

Colonization

2K Games and Firaxis have today announced the Civilization IV: Colonization is due to arrive during the Autumn. Colonization is going to be a standalone expansion to Civilization IV and will be released on the PC and is going to take advantage of the Civilization IV engine. Colonization will give players the chance to relive the 1994 classic and conquer America with one of four European powers. Sid Meier quote:

“We’ve received many requests from fans over the years to bring back Colonization and now seemed to be the perfect time to do that,” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. “The Civilization IV engine provided a fantastic foundation for a new Colonization experience and allowed us to create something great for both new players and long time fans of the game.”
