Portfolio

My portfolio of sorts.

I am a keen gamer and I love to write about games. I personally would love to get a job with a gaming magazine or website, whether that is going to happen is something for the future.

My writing life started off with a little known Command and Conquer fansite, cncnation.net which I set up following the announcement of Command and Conquer 3. This gave me my first taste of gaming ‘journalism’ as it were. When I was running the site I held a few interviews, the C&C Community Manager and the mod team Tiberian Dawn were my victims. While I loved running the site at the beginning it latterly became more of a chore, I felt constricted in what I could do. This, tied with a growing apathy towards the C&C franchise led to the closure of the site in early 2008.

In other Command and Conquer work I was for a short-time a PR Writer for the Tiberian Dawn mod. This exciting mod aims to recreate the original Command and Conquer using the Tiberium Wars engine. Unfortunately due to various other commitments taking precedent I have had to put my work for the mod on the back burner. One day I may return and help out, but time will tell on that.

I am an Editor on the leading Half-Life 2 fansite, halflife2.net. My tasks range from writing (hopefully) innovative and exciting news, managing the direction that the site takes on many issues, writing content and moderating some areas of the forums. This is one site which I hope to be involved with for a long time, it is the first place that really gave me my first break in games writing and I love it.

My time at University has led me to further pursue my interest in games writing via the University Newspaper. This is where the large proportion of my early game reviews were originally published. Reviews of games such as Call of Duty 4 and The Orange Box were originally published in the University Paper. However in recent months other writing positions have taken priority over it.

More recently I have taken on a position at 411 Mania in the Games section. I am the resident PC writer and as such am tasked with writing a weekly column known as ‘The PC Centric Extravaganza’. This column features my thoughts on the PC news from the past week and the occasional extended piece of writing. I have also written many reviews and previews for the site.

My most recent work has been for the UK game retailer, GAME. I have written reviews and previews of a variety of PC games for the GAME website.

Finally there is this, my PC gaming blog where I write most frequently and where I enjoy writing the most. Being my own creation it allows me to take the content in any direction I wish, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
