PC Gaming Alliance on PC Sales

The PC Gaming Alliance has released a lengthy press release at the Leipzig Games Development Conference lauding the success of PC gaming in the past year. The ‘Horizons’ report reveals that PC gaming was a $10.7 billion industry worldwide in 2007. One of the most surprising figures to come out of the report was that retail sales only accounted for 30% of the total. Unsurprisingly however it was revealed that the Asian online market is approaching half of total worldwide sales.

Online PC gaming revenue totalled $4.8 billion and was the biggest contributor to total PC gaming revenues last year, this was nearly double the worldwide retail sales. Digital distribution sales were approaching $2 billion and advertising revenue (websites and in-game ads included) accounted for $800 million of the total.

Call of Duty 4 – PC DLC Free!

June 5th sees Call of Duty 4 get some free downloadable content, we will see four new maps drop into the PC version, these were the four maps the Xbox 360 gamers had to pay for. Along with the new maps Patch 1.6 will also be coming out on June 5th.

Infinity Ward Community Manager Robert Bowling has confirmed that the map pack is being ’sponsored by nVidea’ and that the graphics card manufacturers have more things planned for us PC gamers.

Is this a sign that nVidea, members of the PC Gaming Alliance are taking the PCGA seriously and helping promote PC gaming? I hope so.

Rein on Cliffy B – ‘an idiot!’

Remember Cliffy B commenting the other week that PC Gaming was dying? Well Mark Rein thinks he is an idiot for saying this! Speaking to Tom’s Games regarding the PC Gaming Alliance Mark explains his view and talks about much more.

TG: But then you have Cliffy B come out and say that PC gaming is in disarray and…

MR: Oh he’s an idiot [laughing]. No, he’s a great guy. Cliff makes console games though, right? He’s on a console team that makes what is primarily a console game.
